چکیده

We used radiation data taken during the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Enhanced Shortwave Experiment (ARESE). We constructed the total irradiance by adding the average diffuse field irradiance measured by two shaded pyranometers and the direct beam irradiance multiplied by the cosine of the solar zenith angle. We used an empirical formula introduced by Michalsky et al. (1997) to correct the bias error of the direct beam measured by the Solar and Infrared Radiation Observation system (SIROS) pyrheliometer. We used a *2-stream model to compute irradiances at the surface. A detailed explanation of both the data and the model is found in Kato et al. (1997).

Detection of Clear Skies Using Total and Diffuse Shortwave Irradiance: Calculations of Shortwave Cloud Forcing and Clear Sky Diffuse Ratio

The effect of clouds on the shortwave (SW) irradiance near the surface is of interest for surface radiative energy budget studies (Long et al. 1994) and investigation of the recently suggested excess SW cloud absorption (Cess et al. 1995; Ramanathan et al. 1995; Pilewski and Valero 1995). One measure of the effect of clouds is cloud forcing: the difference between clear (i.e., cloudless) sky ir...

Clear Sky Models Assessment for an Operational Pv Production Forecasting Solution

Photovoltaic production is mostly driven by the solar irradiance received at ground level. Forecasting surface solar irradiance remains to predict the cloudiness and combine it with the value of the irradiance modeled under a clear sky for the same area at the same forecast horizon. Thus, uncertainty of irradiance under clear sky can affect significantly the photovoltaic production forecast. Cl...

An Evaluation of Satellite Estimates of Solar Surface Irradiance Using Ground Observations in San Antonio, Texas, USA

Estimates of solar irradiance at the earth’s surface from satellite observations are useful for planning both the deployment of distributed photovoltaic systems and their integration into electricity grids. In order to use surface solar irradiance from satellites for these purposes, validation of its accuracy against ground observations is needed. In this study, satellite estimates of surface s...

Cloud modulation of surface solar irradiance at a pasture site in southern Brazil

Broken cloud fields create mosaic radiative landscapes with interchanging cloud-shaded and sunlit areas. While clouds attenuate solar radiation incident on cloud-shaded areas, sunlit ground surfaces may actually receive more irradiance than under a clear sky due to light scattering and reflection from neighboring clouds. In this paper, we studied these two opposite but closely related aspects o...

Comparison of UV climates at Summit, Greenland; Barrow, Alaska and South Pole, Antarctica

An SUV-150B spectroradiometer for measuring solar ultraviolet (UV) irradiance was installed at Summit, Greenland, in August 2004. Here we compare the initial data from this new location with similar measurements from Barrow, Alaska and South Pole. Measurements of irradiance at 345 nm performed at equivalent solar zenith angles 5 (SZAs) are almost identical at Summit and South Pole. The good agr...
